Planning the Ideal Honeymoon

Just like your wedding, you have to carefully plan and work out a budget for your honeymoon...

The questions to consider when honeymoon planning are:

  • How many days vacation are you planning?

It's always a good idea to plan your time off work as early as possible. Most employers appreciate you giving as much notice as you can about intended vacation leave.

Don't forget that you may wish to take a few days before the wedding to prepare. Try not to book your holiday to start the morning after your wedding. You usually need a day or two to recover from the festivites before you take off.

  • Are you planning a local holiday or would you like to travel overseas?

Does your budget stretch far enough for an overseas honeymoon to some exotic location? Or would you prefer to spend a couple of days pottering around your local area?

At the very least, try to plan a couple of days in a luxury hotel, or take a car tour to a nearby town or city. It's often amazing how few people know about or visit their local tourist attractions - take time to find out more about your locale.

  • How far does your budget stretch?

Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so making your honeymoon an equally exciting experience will give you happy memories for many years to come.

For many couples, their honeymoon gives them an opportunity to travel somewhere they've never been before, either in their own country or overseas, so they save diligently to splash out on the wedding and honeymoon.

    Honeymoon planning

For other just married couples, buying their first home is more important (not to mention practical) than an overseas adventure. Sometimes the experience of overseas travel is simply out of the question. So, no matter what your budget allows, plan your honeymoon accordingly.

If you're lucky enough to be travelling interstate or overseas, consider all the costs associated with your trip: airfares, accommodation, transfer costs, meals, sightseeing tours and shopping all have to be factored in to your budget.

  • What type of people are you expecting to travel with?

Many tour groups cater to differing ages and stages in life. Make sure any tours you take cater for people of a similar age group and complementary interests.

Once you've decided on your destination, do your research. The more you know about the places you'd like to visit, the easier it is to plan your honeymoon.

Above all, have fun! Your honeymoon is a special time for both of you, so make the most of every day and make it an experience that you will both cherish forever.
