Let's face it, celebrity engagement rings have most of us fascinated, and not surprisingly, usually a little envious.

• Elizabeth Taylor is well known for her love affair with diamonds - and Richard Burton - who presented her with her baubles. Probably the most famous of her jewels is the 69 carat pear-shaped Cartier diamond, which was re-named the Taylor-Burton diamond. Burton also presented Elizabeth with the 33 carat Krupp diamond as an engagement gift.
• Jacqueline Bouvier was presented with a 2.88 carat diamond and emerald engagement ring by her soon-to-be husband Senator John F. Kennedy. As a result, emeralds became one of the most popular choices for brides-to-be during the mid 1950s.

  Almost 40 years later, she was given a 40 carat diamond engagement ring by Aristotle Onassis, which was sold at auction in 1996 for an astounding $2.35 million.

• Prince Rainier of Monaco gave Grace Kelly a 12 carat emerald cut diamond engagement ring. In her final screen performance before becoming Princess Grace of Monaco, Grace Kelly wore the magnificent diamond ring. During the film, aptly titled "High Society", actor Bing Crosby looks at the ring and quips, "Some stone, did you mine it yourself?"
• Prince Charles gave Lady Diana Spencer a huge, oval sapphire engagement ring surrounded by 14 brilliant cut diamonds. The ring was valued at £42,000.

  When he announced his engagement to Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005, he presented her with an Art Deco inspired emerald-cut engagement ring featuring 3 baguette diamonds on each side. The ring was formerly owned by the Queen Mother.
